RANA MARSA is an artistic body of work that has grown out of more than twenty-five years of photographic professional practice.

The works begin in the physical world. People, bodies, objects, landscapes, machines, architecture and staged situations are photographed, collected and slowly, precisely composed into new visual realities.The images are not generated by artificial intelligence. Everything remains truly seen — found as it is, or staged as a state specifically for a work.The works take shape over long periods of time. Not everything an image needs is available when the image begins. Some of its parts have to be found, others have to happen — and some have to be waited for.What becomes visible has its origin in photographed reality.Photography is a tool and a point of departure — not a border.

With the question of what the visible does inside us. Reality is shifted and still remains real, because what has been seen can carry it. And through this, an inner state can emerge. Seeing is not passive. Seeing changes - what we feel — and what we feel - changes what we see. Life as a visual opera. As a memory pack, built from memories, from the smell of what has been seen and from the heard-visible. As if cooking with the senses. At the centre is the human being: body and consciousness, feeling, contradictory, creating.A living part of the cosmos that takes and gives, destroys and creates, remembers and forgets, desires and lets go. Body and nature are not opposites. They belong to the same living connection. Beauty and wound, simplicity and complexity, order and instinct, closeness and strangeness, black and white can exist at the same time. Not as a choice between two sides, but as visual states of the same lived life. Creating as a form of experiencing through the simplicity of seeing.An image does not emerge to make visible an answer that was already known. It emerges in order to experience something that could not have been known before. In what is observed and what is seen, at the same time. Through photography, image, light, object, space and sound, the works move through human emotion, memory, body, nature, desire for life and the depth and superficiality of feeling. They move between personal experience and a larger world of their own — between what we believe we know about ourselves, what we hope to know, and that inner cosmos still unknown to us. So every work becomes part of an ongoing question...
